UPDATED EU Stats: 31st December 2007

UPDATE: 8th Jan 2007
A couple of quick answers to some US Forums questions.

1) For Population data on the normalised graphs I have used the Warcraft Realms Census.

2) I will be making a US version soon.
-------------------------------------------------------

Updated stats for all eu.armory teams using personal Ratings, all teams with 0 games played have been excluded.

I have also added a new chart showing the difference in representation between the last stats (season 2, 24th Oct) and the current Season 3 stats.
Very noticeable is that Shammies, Pallies and Mages have suffered heavily in 2v2 with half as many represented at the higher ratings (same with Pally/Shammy in 3v3) while Druid has rocketed by over 100% in 2v2 and 3v3 (and this is probably the main reason Mages, Pallies and Shammies have taken a large hit).

Rogues and to a lesser extent Priests have also seen very nice gains in 2v2/3v3.

Hunters have actually taken a hit in 2v2 but seeing decent gains in 3v3/5v5 although they still lack decent representation.

Parsing on-going, new stats very soon

For some reason I am getting a lot of errors during the armory parsing (http requests not returning the xml content, this seems to be load-based), this has forced me to put in a number of code delays, both between requests and between re-tries after any errors. If these values are too low I am seeing a 50% failure rate, so I have had to be quite generous (over 5 secs after each failed request) in order to guarantee I get the data.

As this is happening for roughly 10% of the 123k teams (on top of the 60ms delay I have added to all requests), that is adding up to a much longer scan time. As I type this I only have about 35,000 teams done (approx 28% of the EU armory), which equates to 150,00 players.

So... it may be a few days before I finish the scan. Once I finish the scan I will be able to re-run the stats.

Finally, as already mentioned I will also be using the players Personal Rating for the new stats, as this will allow for a much more accurate picture and will allow me to include anyone with more than 0 games played.

EU armory still having problems

Unfortunately the EU armory isn't working very well at the moment (it still shows people in pre-s3 gear for example) and it is also missing out teams on the character tab, showing inaccurate rankings etc. As such I don't have any faith in it atm, and a parse would be dubious at best.

While I wait for it to be fixed I will look at making some changes so I can parse some US data, I will also use Personal Ratings this time as they will give a far more accurate view of how that class is performing within the team.

SoonTM. :)

Ok I re-scanned the armory prior to s3 to see how things were and beyond Hunters going up a bit (well, in some cases going from 2 to 4% which is a 100% improvement after a few weeks) the data wasn't all that different.

I will give it a few weeks with s3 and then do another scan to see how things are playing out.

Updates

Just a quick note, I will be updating the charts soon, but I want to wait a couple of weeks post 2.3 before I do so we can see what impact the class adjustments have had.

Also, if you link to, or host one of the charts please reference the blog url (http://vhairi.blogspot.com/) as well so people don't have to rely on the additional charts being posted or updates being posted on the forums.

Cheers

EU Arena Stats for 20th October (includes Normalised Version)

UPDATED 24th October using data parsed 20th October
The update this time uses a larger data set and also includes a normalised version for each bracket using the Warcraft Census Data. I do not know how accurate the census data is however.

Some very interesting results in the normalised versions, e.g. taking into account population the Mage actually underperforms in all 3 brackets and the Warrior is far less of a dominating force.

Realms: All 107 eu.armory realms
Teams: 127,953 (14,298 ignored with 0 games played)

EDIT 14-Oct-2007
Added titles etc. to Chart as well as sample size.
Also added an Overall Chart for all 3 brackets
and extended the brackets shown.

Updated EU stats 13-Oct-2007

1400 to 2400+ Rating (currently 1500 = 1500-1599, 1600=1600 -1699 etc)
Teams: 104,437
Realms: 86

My Rant: You can see how badly Mages perform in 2v2 (they do well in 3v3 and OK in 5v5). WTF did we need 45sec Hypothermia? That will screw over 2v2 even more.

Locks are no suprise in 2v2 really, but alas poor hunters (and my beloved mage class in 2v2).
